Joe Wheeler State Park
The newest addition to our area is dubbed appropriately as the “AWESOME TRAIL” which is a collection of smaller trails at Joe Wheeler State Park. Collectively these trails are almost 10 miles of machine cut, double track, and that means they are smooth and roomy for all users to enjoy!
This is the perfect place to get into mountain biking, trail running, or just a great place to walk. It is very kid friendly and you can expect a few climbs, but it’s very doable for most folks!
Parking available at the Boat Ramp or the Marina. NOTE: the dotted trails are hiking only and not for bikes. Use the State Parks Trail reporting system if you find any problems or need to report something.
Shoal Creek Preserve
Shoal Creek Preserve has a figure-8 where you will walk or ride by many photogenic spots along Jones Branch and Lawson Branch. There is also a Shoal Creek overlook. These loops provide a relatively moderate ride suitable for beginners, but they are bumpy with roots with some challenging climbs every so often. This route will require some bike handling skills, and you will have to pedal harder and use the brakes more than at Joe Wheeler!
The trails are marked for horse riding, hiking, and biking, respectively. PLease do not ride your bike on the Horse Trail, and vice versa!Shoal Creek Preserve mountain biking trails
Wildwood Park lives up to it’s name! It is a very fun place to ride for intermediate to advanced riders. There are multiple features throughout the park, and more coming! The terrain does require a bit of leg work to get going, so get ready to pedal!
Parking is in the park or at the forestry service parking lot across the street from the main parking area. Please do not park along the road way!Wildwood Park mountain biking trails
